What Every Good Marketer Should Know

A very very short post today, just a link to Seth Godin's always excellent blog. If you don't know his site, I highly recommend that you subscribe to it via email or through your favorite feed reader.

This post from a couple of months ago is an update to a list he put together three years ago, and includes quite a few tips that are very relevant to retail marketers. For example:
  • Anticipated, personal and relevant advertising always does better than unsolicited junk
  • Living and breathing an authentic story is the best way to survive in an conversation-rich world
  • People are selfish, lazy, uninformed and impatient. Start with that and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by what you find.
While some of the items on his list may seem obvious, they're not always easy to implement and therefore have a tendency to get pushed to the end of the to-do list. In other words, as the last line in his post notes 'Knowing what to do is very, very different than actually doing it.' How true!
