In-call Advertising

Now there's another 'cutting edge' venue where you can spend your advertising budget - private phone calls. As CNN reports, Internet phone and calling card companies are now testing in-call advertising. While customers wait for their calls to connect, the originating party hears a short audio ads. Under one model, for each ad they listen to customers earn credits that are then used to offset their phone bills.

While we're already used to hearing when waiting on hold with commercial companies, ads on online calls can be targeted to the caller based on his or her call history. Advertisers currently include airlines, banks, movie studios and other blue-chip companies. One concern for ad buyers is the issue of privacy - "people need to know that by using the service, that information can be used for advertising."
