Catalogs Drive Web Traffic

A new consumer study commissioned by the New England Mail Order Association (NEMOA) confirms the widely spread perception that print catalogs are the most effective driver of traffic to the corresponding Web site. While the report's sponsors are obviously in favor of the study's conclusions, the results make sense.

Other findings include:

- Search engines and portals are the second-most effective means of driving traffic to a site.

- More than half of the Web shoppers surveyed had bought from the same print catalog within the past two years.

- Buying from a catalog's Web site enables consumers to view the company's complete inventory; save time by identifying the item in the print catalog and ordering online; easily track orders; immediately learn which merchandise is out of stock; and find lower prices or more sales compared to the print books.
